On August 6, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, citing the country’s continued importation of oil from the Russian Federation. This action builds upon Executive Order 14066 (Match 8, 2022), which restricts certain imports and investments in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Based on the recent executive orders, the tariff on imports from India will increase as follows:
August 7, 2025: 25% (Tariff) + 8.4% (General Duty) for a total of 33.4%
August 27, 2025: 25% (Tariff) + 25% (Additional Tariff) + 8.4% (General Duty) for a total of 58.4%
Important Note:
These rates apply to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from the warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. EDT on the respective dates, except for shipments in transit prior to that time and entered before 12:01 a.m. EDT on September 17, 2025.
